CEO Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to the University Co-op Bookshop, Australia's premier academic and professional booksellers.

We are a membership based not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to providing the widest range of learning resources for our members at the best possible price. We were created by students, but our customer service continues throughout your book buying life.

Membership is a once only cost of just $20 and lasts a lifetime. As your interests and book needs change we want to be your preferred bookshop, either in our shops or online.

If you would like to join the 1.5 million members who benefit from our services, please click here. If you joined in the past and have lost your membership card, you can get a replacement card by downloading our Membership Amendment Form.

As a membership organisation, we are a ‘for-benefits’ business, and return the majority of our annual surplus to our members in a number of ways:

  • Member discounts at point of purchase, through member pricing on most products (5%-40% savings)
  • Investment in our stores
  • Investment in our website (members from 120 countries shop online with us)
  • Member only email offers
  • Local on-campus grants, scholarships and support (see ‘We Support’)

We have over 45 stores in NSW, QLD, ACT, VIC, WA and Tasmania and provide books, software, DVDs, stationery, clothing and giftware to our members and to a wide range of Universities, libraries, private colleges, businesses, hospitals and government organisations. In 2009 over 75,000 new members joined the University Co-operative Bookshop. More than 200,000 of our members shopped with us during that time, and we returned $7.2 million to them through special member pricing.

We also sponsor individual societies and clubs on different campuses and universities, working with our University partners to provide the most effective allocation of funds. Our sponsorship activities include bursaries at several universities. We provide donations and gift vouchers for events and functions at all universities nationwide, as well as sponsorship of ‘O’ week activities. We also support student magazines and activities through regular advertising in student publications.

Since 2008 we have contributed to the annual Indigenous Literacy Day. Working in partnership with the Fred Hollows Foundation, Indigenous Literacy Day aims to raise funds to buy books and resources for remote Indigenous communities. Our other major commitment is our relationship with AIME (The Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience), to produce customised learning resources, including textbooks and workbooks for the Indigenous high school students involved in this innovative one-on-one mentoring program with University students.

We are committed to continuous improvement of our customer experience, member services, retail stores and our website. I would strongly encourage you to directly with suggestions for improvement. We really value the input of members, customers and staff.

The University Co-operative Bookshop aspires to be your bookshop for life, and we are determined to create vibrant communities of dedicated readers within our 1.5 million members. Join us, or return to us, we are sure that we will be an important part of your life as a continuous learner.
